The New Renewable Sources Energy Act

4 May 2011

In the State Gazette No. 35 from 3 May 2011 the Renewable Sources Energy Act was announced. The Act revokes the current Renewable and Alternative Energy Sources and Biofuels Act, but continues the policy of recognition of the known methods for enhancement of the process of generation of electric energy from renewable sources, among which are the guaranteed access of such energy to the transmission and distribution grids, as well as determination of a preferential feed-in tariff. Nevertheless, the Act introduces a number of new provisions in the mechanism for connection of plants for generation of electricity from renewables to the electric grid, as well as in the mechanism for determination of the preferential feed-in tariff by the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation. The new Act also re-regulates the pending investment projects for development of plants for generation of electricity from renewable sources, by establishing different conditions depending on the stage of completion of these plants.
